Alzheimer's Challenged and Conquered?Louis Blank was a man of high intelligence, but his brain deteriorated to the point where he failed to recognize his own daughter. After many more lapses of memory Louis' wife arranged a doctor's appointment for him. The Devastating DiagnosisIn 1993, at the age of 56, Louis was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. This book follows his journey into the depths of the disease and then back to normal functioning. A lot of the book is written in the first person by Louis. It's a look at Alzheimer's from the inside out, from the sufferer's point of view. Some sections of the book were written by Louis's wife and his daughter, when his Alzheimer's was too bad for him to write. You get a look from the carer's point of view. The Fight Against Alzheimer'sLouis Blank had a lot of personal strength. He determined he would fight and win, and he did just that. "Alzheimer's Challenged and Conquered?" tells of his fight. It follows his reasoning and his methods, particularly his mental exercises. The "Afterword" gives Louis' thoughts on Alzheimer's disease, its causes and how to fight it. It tells what he thinks about aluminium and Alzheimer's, and mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings and the disease. Louis Blank says "Perhaps the treatment I undertook would work as well for others as it did for me. Or perhaps not." Personally, I would be following Louis' methods to the best of my ability. You may give yourself more time, or you may even do what Louis did and reverse the damage. Never Give Up! If you do go down, it's better to go down fighting than just give up. Read The BookThis is an inspirational book that has humour and is easy to read. It gives hope and it gives the methods Louis used to rid himself of this devastating disease. It's well worth a read. You could find it at your local library (that's where I got it from). Or better still, buy your own copy. |
