Alzheimer's Book Review
Medical researcher Frank Mangano says he can help you prevent, slow or even halt Alzheimer's disease by natural means. Does his Alzheimer's book deliver? Can Anything Help Stop The Slide Into Alzheimer's Oblivion?Studies say yes, there is some hope in the battle against Alzheimer's disease. There are a whole range of things you can do that will help fight the disease, including diet, supplements and physical and mental exercises. There are doctors who claim to be able to treat Alzheimer's successfully, and some who say they can slow its progression to the point where it won't affect you during your lifetime.Louis Blank in his book "Alzheimer's Challenged and Conquered?" details his slide into Alzheimer's to the point where he couldn't recognize his own daughter, and his fight back to normality. He is now symptom free. So Frank Mangano isn't alone in his claim that Alzheimer's can be treated by natural means. There is no medical cure for Alzheimer's disease. Medication can treat the symptoms, and give sufferers the best possible chance of staying independent and have a reasonable quality of life. But if you want to do the utmost for a long Alzheimer's-free life you must educate yourself. Who is Frank Mangano?Frank Mangano is a medical researcher, not a health professional, and that is a double edged sword. He is not blinkered by the traditional western health professionals view that medical problems can only be treated by drugs and surgery. He is open to the view that lifestyle, diet, supplements and exercise all have a vital role in a physically and mentally healthy body.On the other hand he is not qualified to give medical advice, and he does make that point. He states that his Alzheimer's book is informational, not medical advice, and to continue your Alzheimer's treatment until your doctor advices otherwise. The book is co-written by Kim Wierman who has also been writing about natural health care for many years. The Mind Killer Defense FormatThe Mind Killer Defense comes as an e-book, that is a book that is downloaded to your computer. You'll need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. It's a very common e-book format, so chances are you have it already, but if you don't you can download it from http://get.adobe.com/reader/There are a number of advantages to e-books, and a disadvantage. The book is available almost instantly. Go through the checkout procedure, and you're sent a link to a download page. In a few minutes you can have the book on your computer and be reading it. You can increase or decrease the size on your screen to make reading more comfortable. if you're like me and your eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be, it's easy to make the print bigger. And an e-book is easier to update. One of the many bonuses Frank offers is free lifetime upgrades. The disadvantage I think is that it is harder to read an e-book online than it is to read a print book, though I find it isn't a huge problem with books of this length. I once read a novel online and that was difficult. What I do now is read as long as I feel comfortable, then come back to the e-book later. What You GetAs I said, this is a downloadable e-book that you can be reading in 5 minutes. It's 126 pages long and disregarding the table of contents, testimonial , about the authors, list of reference books etc, there's around 108 pages of content. You also get a couple of downloadable bonuses that I've listed further down the page.
What's In ItUp to page 42 The Mind Killer Defense gives background information; what Alzheimer's is, the 7 stages, how it differs from other dementias, Frank's research, Alzheimer's indicators, genetics and other risk factors. It also covers man made drugs and what they do.The Mangano Method to naturally preventing Alzheimer's starts on page 42 and goes through to page 115, giving 73 pages on fighting Alzheimer's. Frank seems to cover all the bases, antioxidants, immune system builders, vitamins, minerals, herbs, aluminum, mercury, fish oils and even curry, plus a chapter on physical and mental exercise. One thing he covers that I hadn't previously been aware of is the connection between high cholesterol and Alzheimer's. The Mind killer Defense ends up with a checklist for preventing Alzheimer's and a 30 day plan to keep your mind sharp. Who It's ForI believe this book is best for those who want to prevent Alzheimer's disease, and those in the early stages. The earlier Alzheimer's is tackled the more chance of treating it. I would think if Alzheimer's is further advanced there will still be some benefits from using the methods in this Alzheimer's book, but obviously it won't be as effective as if you had started earlier. My opinion though, is that if I was suffering from Alzheimer's, as long as I can think well enough to know I have to do something, and I am capable of doing it I will do what I can. Buying the book for someone else that you are concerned about is fine if that person is open to natural methods of fighting Alzheimer's, and they are not in denial so they refuse to do anything. One thing I have learned over the years is that you can't make anyone do anything they don't want to, it doesn't matter how much you think it will help, or how much you care. Customer SupportCustomer support is not something you really think about with an e-book. But what if your computer crashes and you lose it? (Yes,I know it should be backed up onto a backup disk drive or a flash drive but that isn't always done). Or what if something goes wrong with your download? You need to be able to get in contact with the vendors and get your problem sorted.I contacted customer support yesterday. My copy of "The Mind Killer Defense" was a couple of years old and I wanted the latest copy. One of the bonuses with this Alzheimer's book is free upgrades for life. So I asked for the latest version. I didn't have a receipt number, all I could give them was my name and the email address I'd used when I originally ordered. Within an hour I was given a download link to get the new e-book and all the bonuses, including a couple that weren't available when I originally ordered. I was quite impressed, especially as I live in Australia, in a totally different time zone to the vendors. Bonus ConfusionBonuses are common when you purchase an e-book or e-course, and "The Mind Killer Defense" is no different. It is confusing though! On Frank's sales page he lists a number of bonuses that certainly appear to be free with the e-book, but when you order you find some of them are actually an upgrade offer so be prepared for that! It's a rather disappointing that he is not more clear on this, as it could be off-putting. The basic package has "The Mind Killer Defense", "Lessons From The Miracle Doctors" and How Your Shower May Be Hazardous To Your Health". The Upgrade Offer, costing an extra $10 gives you another of Frank's e-books, "The Blood Pressure Miracle" and an audio hypnosis program, that covers "Power Your Mind To Avoid Alzheimer's", "Power Your Mind To Improve Cholesterol " and "Memory Power". I received these audios yesterday, and I can't say how effective they are. They appear to be subliminal tapes that you play while you're resting or sleeping, and I've heard good reports about other quality subliminal tapes. I'd suggest "The Blood Pressure Miracle" is well worth the extra $10, because as Frank points out, your circulation does have an effect on Alzheimer's. Whether you'd want the hypnosis tapes depends on what you think about the power of the subconcius mind. But if you get the upgrade for the blood pressure miracle, you may as well try the tapes. They may well help. The Guarantee"The Mind Killer Defense" is sold through Clickbank, and it has Click bank's required 60 day money back guarantee. if you get the book and decide it isn't for you, you can get a refund. My Biggest CriticismsI like all the nutritional advice, and I think that that is well covered. Physical exercise seems to be covered quite adequately too. I would have liked to have seen more on mental exercises, with perhaps some mental games that can be played to sharpen your mind. However, Frank does give a list of 5 mental activities you can do, and he mentions a couple of brain stimulating games.Mental exercise isn't difficult to find though. You need something that challenges your thinking, and like physical exercise if you want to keep improving you need to keep going that little bit further than your comfort zone. As you improve, make the challenges that much harder. I noticed this when I did an engineering degree after working as a tradesman for 10 years. It took 6 months of concentrated effort before my brain really felt like it was working well. I did some remedial work at the university that was actually nicknamed the de-rusting course, because it was just like clearing your brain of all the accumulated rust and letting it move smoothly again. And I think a tough academic course is one of the top ways of getting all your neurons firing again, if you can stick at it. My second criticism is the confusion with the bonuses. I don't think Frank Mangano did this deliberately, it's more likely an oversight when bonuses were changed. It can leave a bad taste in your mouth though, thinking you're getting something for free and then being told you have to pay for it. My thoughts are, "The Mind Killer Defense" is worth the price without the bonuses. Don't be put off. My ConclusionsPersonally, I think it is well worth a read. It's well researched, and easy to read. It has everything I've come across in other Alzheimer's books plus more, and it's all covered in the one book. You don't need to go from one book to another or one website to another to get all the info.I've read quite a few books on Alzheimer's, and I'd place this one right up among the best. How much difference it makes in you life depends on how well you follow it, what stage of Alzheimer's you're at and I possibly your own body make up.
